Upgrade and Compatibility

The latest version of Foglight for SNMP is 5.8.5.3.

Prerequisite: Foglight for Infrastructure 5.8.5.3 must be installed before upgrading to Foglight for SNMP 5.8.5.3.

Note: Foglight for Infrastructure is order-dependent. Therefore, the Agent Manager must be updated on the Management Server prior to installing Foglight for Infrastructure.

To upgrade from version 5.8.5 of Foglight for SNMP:

  1. Use the Administration > Cartridges > Cartridge Inventory dashboard to install the SNMPCartridge-5_8_5_3.car cartridge and all the sub-cartridges within it. Do not delete the older version of the .car file. Install version 5.8.5.3 over the older version.
  2. Manually upgrade the agents.
    1. Navigate to the Administration > Agents > Agent Status dashboard.
    2. Select the eight GenericSNMPAgent type agents and the GenericSNMPTrapAgent and click Upgrade.

After the upgrade, run an SNMP Discovery to deploy the agent package to a selected Foglight Agent Manager. To run the discovery, go to the Infrastructure dashboard and click SNMP Hosts. During the discovery, the discovery agent and monitoring agents are created and you can select the devices that you want Foglight to monitor. For more information about running the SNMP Discovery, see the Foglight for SNMP User and Reference Guide.

Product Licensing

Foglight includes a licensing capability that restricts access to those features that are defined in the license. Any Management Server installation requires a license that grants access to server-specific parts of the browser interface and the features associated with them. Foglight cartridges are also license-protected. While some cartridges are covered by the base Foglight license (such as Foglight Agent Manager cartridges and the Cartridge for Infrastructure), others may require an additional license. This cartridge is covered by the base Foglight license.

To activate a trial or a purchased commercial license:
  1. On the navigation panel, under Dashboards, click Administration > Setup & Support > Manage Licenses.
  2. Click Install.
  3. In the Install License dialog box, click Browse.
  4. In the file browser that appears, specify the location of the license file.
  5. In the Install License dialog box, click Install License.
